Prior to starting any therapy, it is important to determine the stage of the prostate disease as precisely as possible, since only accurate data can result in the proper recommendation and optimal therapy.

For an exact determination of the tumor stage, different types of screening methods are available:

- PSA score
- Results of tissue samples (Gleason-Score=Degree of the tumors’ aggressiveness)
- High-resolution transrectal ultrasound
- CT and MRT
- Bone Scan
- Cholin-PET (Positron Emission Tomography)
