On March 1, 2008, the West German Prostate Center organized an Uro-Oncology Symposium already for the eighth time at the Maternushaus in Cologne. Together with renowned expert from Europe and the United States, we invited fellow experts to discuss developments in diagnostics and therapy of prostate cancer. Focal point of the discussions were the possibilities and limitations of today’s available options.
With about 58 000 new cases of prostate cancer per year, the prostate carcinoma is the tumor disease most frequently diagnosed in males. Against the background of demographic developments, as well as improved early detection methods, in the future not only urologists, but also internists and general practioners will be the primary contact and will be confronted with questions of required diagnostics and adequate therapies. Rapid developments in medical technology are currently providing a great number of well tested therapy options for prostate cancer, which allow for more individualized treatment. An extensive and comprehensive consultation of the patient does, however, require profound knowledge of the current developments regarding diagnostic and therapeutic options. Additionally, the media, such as television, newspapers, and especially the internet, are supplying a flood of information, which are difficult to judge. Here the physician takes on the responsibility of evaluating and relativizing of the information received by the patient. The program 2008 can be downloaded and printed here. The program and list of speakers/lecturers who actively participated in the symposium during the past years, can be viewed here: verwandte Themen: Uro-Onkologisches | Symposium | Update-Symposium | Diagnostik | Therapie | Schwerpunktzentren | Prostatakrebs | Diagnostik | Behandlungsmöglichkeiten | Prostatakarzinom |
